Growing pains, dark satanic stills and ‘Ginpersonation’: Gin industry seminar will tackle gin’s pressing issues
Lively debate and a chance to taste interesting new releases will be on the menu when gin industry experts from around the UK – and as far afield as Australia – gather in London in June for their annual Ginposium seminar.
Tickets are now on sale for The Gin Guild’s sixth annual gin industry seminar, which takes place on Friday 7 June at RSA House and is once again expected to be a sell-out.
Topics on the agenda include a gin view from Australia, plus a presentation by Diageo’s master distiller Terry Fraser marking the 250th anniversary of the iconic Gordon’s Gin brand.

“A leaf out of your book” will discuss developments in the botanical trade, Growing Pains will offer a guide to distillery start-ups and Dark Satanic Stills tackles how still design might affect your gin.
A panel discussion, chaired by Ed Pilkington, Grand Rectifier of The Gin Guild, will crystal ball-gaze: debating topics such as whether gin has peaked and the acceptability of products described as gin ‘liqueurs’ and the issue of pushing the flavour envelope.
Nicholas Cook, Director General of The Gin Guild, said: “The excitement, innovation and interest in gin continues. However, there are some real challenges on the horizon, not least the impact of Brexit on the industry, both in terms of import of key materials and the vital export market, which is doing much for the industry and, at the moment, producing a good return for the Revenue.
“Due to the Ginposium’s growing popularity, we moved to a bigger venue two years ago and still sold out. Ginposium is a great networking opportunity for new brands and new distilleries, and it inspires debate on pressing industry topics among the established brands.”
As the international gin industry member body, The Gin Guild continues its active role in promoting gin excellence across the world from gin’s historical home in London.
Speakers at the seminar include:
- Ed Pilkington, Grand Rectifier of the Gin Guild
- Tommy Haughton, Beacon Commodities
- Nolan Kane, Allied Glass
- Ben Marston, Puddingstone Distillery
- Dr Anne Brock, Bombay Sapphire Distillery
- Evelyne Canterranne, FlavorActiV
- David T Smith, Spirit Author and Gin Judge, from Summerfruit Cup
- Ciara Cullen, Partner, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP
- Tom Warner, Warner Edwards
- Terry Fraser, Master Distiller, Diageo
- Joanne McKerchar, Senior Archivist, Diageo

Throughout the day, those attending the gin event in London will also be able to sample the spirit, including a tutored tasting led by David T Smith of www.SummerFruitCup.com.
